London Olympic Mascot
The “World unites online against London’s Olympic mascots”. They are being criticized and mocked across the blogosphere. They are easy targets. They are phallic and have an eerie cyclopean eye. Even Advertising Age and its readers have jumped on the bandwagon.
Anything that is new and unfamiliar is easy to criticize but I will wager a bet that “Wenlock” and “Manderville”, unlike the somewhat cuddly and utterly predictable mascot from the Atlanta Olympics, will be found in the bedrooms of growing kids for years to come. They will come to be part of our cultural lexicon along with other similarly weird figures like Gumby, R2D2 and Ren & Stimpy.
